Advice

These are unusual times, and the state of affairs can change quickly. Please check the latest travel guidance before making your journey. Our writer visited these hotels pre-pandemic.

There are many joys to a trip to Lisbon, one of Europe’s most charming capitals, but its proximity to the airport is definitely one of them. It is not just that it won’t normally take you long to get into the centre but as taxis are cheap in Lisbon, it also won’t cost you very much. All of these hotels are on the airport side of Lisbon to avoid the traffic that can clog up the narrow, cobbled, streets downtown. So if you’re looking for comfortable bedrooms, relaxing spas, free transfer shuttles and fantastic views of the city in a convenient location, here’s our pick of the best hotels near Lisbon airport.

Corinthia Hotel Lisbon

Lisbon, Portugal

9
Telegraph expert rating

The soaring tower of the Corinthia Hotel offers memorable views over one of Lisbon’s most iconic sights: the impressive 18th-century Aquaduct of Águas Livres. Rooms and suites are clad in a colour palette of light blues, greys and beiges, accessorised by local art, while public areas are adorned by abundant fresh flowers which gleam under chandeliers. Restaurants Erva and the leafy Soul Garden outside bring a completely fresh, young, laid-back atmosphere to a previously corporate offering; there’s an Executive Club on the 24th floor; plus a spacious spa with a well equipped gym. Lisbon airport is located a convenient four miles away.

InterContinental Lisbon

Lisbon, Portugal

9
Telegraph expert rating

Opposite the leafy Eduardo VII Park, the InterContinental surpasses all expectations. Rooms are spread over 19 floors with 17 suites included (some with huge terraces); floors are wooden, topped with soft blue rugs; and the décor draws on a blue-and-grey palette. Views are exceptional from the upper floors, with Christ the Redeemer statue visible in the same sweep as St. George’s Castle, the characteristic red rooftops between them and the Tagus beyond. The hotel is also perfectly placed for the airport just a 15-minute drive away and offers easy access to the designer shops of El Corte Ingles. Nearby Jardim Amália Rodrigues park is a beautiful oasis in the heat of summer.

Myriad by SANA Hotels

Lisbon, Portugal

8
Telegraph expert rating

In a very much up-and-coming area right by Lisbon’s shore, this towering hotel fuses visually with a large sculptural sail beside it, creating a landmark sight to all those crossing the long Vasco da Gama bridge into the capital. It’s close to the Oceanarium, the Science Museum and a vast shopping mall, but most of all it is convenient for the airport, just seven or eight minutes away, allowing escape from the dreariness of an airport hotel, for those early-morning flights. Inside, red and black dominate, throughout the public areas and in all the 186 rooms. There is an indoor swimming pool with views over the Tagus, a fitness centre, a hammam, a floatarium, and a Turkish bath.

TRYP Lisboa Aeroporto

Lisbon, Portugal

7
Telegraph expert rating

Part of the Melia group, this is a purpose built and functional hotel which delivers what it sets out to do. It’s a comfortable space without any architectural or design frills, and its position next to the airport sets the theme in public spaces and rooms, from rugs designed like runways and model planes suspended from the ceiling to big black-and-white photographs of international landmarks depicted in tiles above the beds. Services and facilities include a free shuttle bus to and from the airport, a fitness area and spa, and the restaurant offers regional favourites. This a good choice for an overnight stay before for an early flight, and the capital is 20 minutes’ drive away.
